Persistent dirt on your car that doesn’t want to disappear? No more problems, because the dry ice blasting removes stubborn dirt in no time and without much effort. But what is it and when can it be used? You will not ask these questions after this article.
What is dry ice blasting?
Dry ice is solidified CO2, which is both odourless and non-toxic. It is created by filling liquid carbon dioxide from a tank into a machine called pelletizer. The carbon dioxide is then relaxed, i.e. it is cooled down to -78.5°C and then pressed through a die. The result is small dry ice pellets. It is then effectively cleaned with the dry ice pellets, which offers some advantages.
How to clean with dry ice or How does dry ice blasting work?
Dry ice blasting is a method by WHITE LION Dry Ice & Laser Cleaning Technology GmbH of cleaning certain surfaces such as cars, but also monuments. It is a compressed air process in which the dry ice flows through compressed air onto the surface to be cleaned. This removes the stubborn dirt without causing damage to the surface. The fine nozzles also result in cleaning only the areas that are to be cleaned. They are some of the appearance of a high-pressure cleaner, but cleaning with a dry ice lighter is much more effective. The dry ice pellets are ejected from the hose with only about 20 bar, which makes handling enormously easier.
Pros and cons
Since the purchase of such a device for dry ice cleaning is relatively expensive and the operation of the machine requires sufficient experience, it is not worthwhile for every household, but can also be a great enrichment. In general, dry ice blasting is suitable for almost all surfaces. Another advantage is the environmentally friendly work and also the diverse use, because it can also be used for hard-to-reach areas. There is no polluting waste that enters the waste water, as with conventional high-pressure cleaners. The device is much heavier and bulkier than a high-pressure cleaner and only runs with dry ice, which means the process requires a lot of effort as dry ice is not easy to acquire. Experience is also required as the cold jet can be dangerous for humans, but also surfaces such as glass. Some surfaces are also not suitable for dry ice blasting. These are mainly surfaces that are softer than the dirt surface and can therefore be damaged more easily. In the end, dry ice blasting is a really effective way to remove stubborn dirt. It is also a very environmentally friendly solution, as there is no waste water.
